Erwin Piscator (1893-1966) was a German theatre director who began experimenting with epic theatre prior to fellow countryman Bertolt Brecht. Best known for his elaborate multi-level staging, Piscator was one of the first in the West to successfully incorporate projected film sequences into dramatic performance.
