Erwin Piscator (1893-1966) was a German theatre director who began experimenting with epic theatre prior to fellow countryman Bertolt Brecht. Best known for his elaborate multi-level staging, Piscator was one of the first in the West to successfully incorporate projected film sequences into dramatic performance. He is also regarded as an pioneer of modern documentary drama and political theatre forms. – Justin Cash
